The hybrid active learning classroom is the result of a successful story of several teachers within Utrecht university who encountered the limitation of the traditional classrooms with rows of seats and the lecturer standing in front when using blended learning as an educational concept. Because they experienced this limitation in their face-2-face moments with the students they finally asked for flexible spaces to experiment with and do research into new educational content and methods.

Heritage Hall (Athens), Cleveland Campus, Dublin Campus

This past year, the Heritage College opened a new medical education building, and currently is implementing a connected curriculum with eight ‘Active Learning Classrooms’ across all three Heritage College locations in Athens, Dublin, and Cleveland for campus-to-campus connectivity. These ALC’s offer total flexibility to faculty, whether the space needs to be reconfigured for different on-site class sizes and class types or if an instructor needs to teach to a fully remote or hybrid classroom of students.

South Hall

This classroom was upgraded in Summer of 2021 from a standard technology classroom to one that can more easily support hybrid classes and meetings. A USB connected Elmo document camera, OBSBOT Tiny Auto Tracking camera and an Extron DSP Audio processor were added to the space and are automatically connected to the users laptop or the in-room PC by an Extron USB switcher that is automatically switched to the laptop or the in-room PC based on the selected input. The 2 cameras allow for remote and in-person viewing of the professor and different forms of content.

The Hybrid Learning Theatre (HLT) was created to facilitate the transition to online education. The HLT combines online and offline education. It is where blended learning comes alive. The comfortable sofas, two big screens, professional lighting, sound and (three) cameras, form the perfect mixture for the ultimate learning experience. This hybrid learning space of 10x10m2 was constructed in August 2020, in order to facilitate lecturers with a new method of hybrid learning (combining online and offline education).

Innovation Hall

This tiered classroom incorporates additional monitors towards the rear of the space to provide clear sight lines to course content from every seat in the room. Instructors can leverage Sony Edge Analytics' handwriting extraction to provide all students with a clear view of any writing on the classroom's whiteboard.
