Southlake Carroll is a perfect 4-0 against Bell since November of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Dragons will face off against the Blue Raiders at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Southlake Carroll's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
On Friday, Southlake Carroll blew past Northwest, posting a 57-7 win. Fans of the Dragons have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Southlake Carroll relied on the efforts of Davis Penn, who rushed for 97 yards and three TDs on only nine carries, and Angelo Renda, who threw for 321 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes. That's the most rushing yards Penn has posted since back in November of 2024. A healthy portion of Renda's aerial production (87 yards to be exact) went to Brody Knowles.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Southlake Carroll was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Southlake Carroll's defense and their four sacks. Northwest's QB won't forget Crawford Taylor anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as he's now posted at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Marcus Brouse got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Bell ended up a good deal behind Keller Central on Thursday and lost 38-23. The Blue Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Bell's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Southlake Carroll, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0.
Everything came up roses for Southlake Carroll against Bell when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 73-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
